Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate for All
Progressive Congress, in Rivers state, has traced the rising cases of
criminality in state to the lip service paid to security and the
deliberate dismantling of an Isreali-trained anti-kidnapping and
anti-riot outfit setup by former governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Peterside explained that security has deteriorated in the
state due to lack of support for security agencies by Governor Nyesom
Wike.
He alleged that the 60 security vehicles that Wike claimed his
administration donated to the police and other security agencies in the
state was farce and a photo trick claiming that so-called vehicles were
line up for photo shoot for the cameras of journalists.
The APC gubernatorial candidate further accused Governor Wike of
dismantling the security structures and outfits set up by the immediate
past governor of the state.
He went on to alleged that Wike has illegally been mortgaging the
future of Rivers State through bank loans without passing through the
laid down due process.
.
Peterside stated this shortly after a meeting with stakeholders of the
party in Port-Harcourt. He added that the governor approached the
Central Bank of Nigeria on the September 9, through a commercial bank to
secure fresh 15 billion naira loan using excess crude account as
collateral and again in September 30, approached the same bank for N25
billion loan.
Reacting to this allegation, the spokesman to the governor, Simeon
Nwakaudu explained it is not true that Governor Wike is mortgaging the
future of the state with bank loans.
Nwakaudu said that the governpor was only forced to take 30 billion
naira loan because the immediate past administration of the APC had
crippled the resources of the state and left huge debt with several
abandoned projects behind.
