Barcelona wash hands off Dani Alves' ‘f****** rubbish comment directed at the Spanish media

Barcelona have distanced themselves from a statement issued by Dani Alves on his Instagram account in which he criticised the Spanish press calling them ‘f****** rubbish’.

The Brazilain feels the Spanish sports media is more concerned about controversies than about the actual sports itself, all in an assumed bid to sell more numbers of their papers. The usually outspoken Alves then took to social media to slam whoever is concerned and it is understood that
the club to have requested that he retract the remarks but he is yet to do so.

On Friday wrote: ‘Every day that passes I am more ashamed to form part of this sport and how they use us.
‘I used to think that you could go out and defend the shirt and if you won or lost you would go home to either reflect on how badly or how well you had played. Now we are objects used by the press so that they can sell newspapers.

A translation from his post's twitter extension
'Every day that passes we talk less about football, tactics, moves, pieces of skill, goals and the spectacle. What f****** rubbish they are.’
He went on to hashtagged the message ‘more football, less rubbish’

The comment prompted his employers, Barcelona to put out a statement on Friday afternoon to make clear their stand on the matter.
The club's response concluded: ‘Beyond the total freedom that any player has to express his opinions, FC Barcelona wishes to clarify that we do not accept or share the offensive expressions that have been published.’
