Ronald Koeman warns Manchester United targets Mane and Wayama, 'I'll put you in the stands until the end of your contract' if you try to force a move

Southampton coach Ronald Koeman has warned his players that he would not hesitate to send any of them to the stands of they try to force a move out of the club. The Dutchman dropped Saido Mane for Saturday's 1-0 league defeat at Norwich after the Senegal forward was late for a team meeting, sparking increased speculation he was headed to Manchester United this January transfer window.

The boss while he refuted suggestions that either Mane or Wanyama were itching for a move, he vowed to banish anyone misbehaving in order to force a transfer.

"If there is any player thinking if his behaviour is not good that makes it more easier for the player, then I'll put the player in the stands until the end of their contract," said Koeman. "Because in my opinion that's not the way you have to do your job as a football player."

Kenya holding midfielder Wanyama has 18 months left to run on his deal and Koeman insists the club are continuing efforts to discuss a new long-term contract, Mane meanwhile signed a four-year deal when he joined Southampton in 2014, but has been the subject of consistent speculation around keen interest from Manchester United.

However, Koeman insists both Mane and Wanyama are fully focused and enjoying their football at Saint Mary's.
"I'm not doubting about that," said Koeman of Mane and Wanyama's commitment.

"That's the daily basis in communication with the players, and it's too easy to mention after the mistake of Sadio or the second yellow that the players are showing that they like to move.

"It's too easy, and it's not like that. The player knows the position in the club, and what we think about the players.

"That's no reason to doubt about that. I don't have doubts about that. They are important players and they like to be here. They like to continue, they like to make a good season, and that's the most important. They are still happy.

"The contacts is to the players, the contacts is to the agents, and I have to believe in my players."
